About consultation on the future of Income Management

The Government is consulting on the future of Income Management (IM) across Australia. Any decisions regarding the future of IM will be based on consultation with key stakeholders including states, territories and communities.

Community consultation builds on previous consultation the Department of Social Services (the department) has already undertaken with states, territories and peak bodies in early 2023.

Why is it important

The department wants to hear directly from people to provide advice back to government to inform future policies, including what the future of IM could look like.

We want to hear from people about:

  • the role of Income Management in your community
  • whether individuals or communities want to keep a form of Income Management
  • how voluntary Income Management could work in each community
  • what help and support is needed to move away from compulsory Income Management

Who are we working with

The department, in partnership with First Nations organisation, ETM Perspectives (ETMP), is undertaking consultation to hear people’s views on the future of Income Management.

To see when one of these events is in your area, please view the consultation schedule.

Alternatively, if you cannot attend one of the consultations sessions you can provide your views via the online form.
