Carer of a person with disability

Michelle

Hi,

I have had quite a concerning issue with current NDAP. My sister has a MILD ID and ASD, she and her partner decided to get married in 2012. At the time they were dating for between 2 – 3 years. Her partner happens to be Indian, not an Australian citizen. Obviously, this is no concern to anyone in our family as we grew up believing and advocating for equal rights for all – regardless of their individual disability/ circumstances. My sister has experienced severe discrimination and encountered unprofessional work ethic by the various Government Departments (Immigration, OPA, Office of ombudsman ect). My sister asked several Advocate agencies to assist – they did little to nothing and tried to wipe their hands clean as the situation was too difficult. EVERYONE is trying to wipe their hands clean and do not want to assist – does my sister not have a right to live a normal and fulfilling life because of her disability? Does she not have a right to get married and have exactly the same entitlements as myself or other community members? By large Australia is mandated to follow certain Legislation and Acts then why do their Government Departments employee individuals with such lack of respect of their fellow human?
