STAR Victoria

STAR is an independent community organisation that advocates on a statewide basis for the rights of people with an intellectual disability and their families. We are funded under the Victorian Disability Advocacy Program (DHHS).

At this stage we are unable to make a submission but have read the submission from AMIDA with whom we have an ongoing close networking relationship. We fully support the points made and the position taken under each heading in that submission.

Our experience over 43 years in disability advocacy has indisputably shown the critical importance and need for people with an intellectual disability and their families to have access to independent advocacy to enable and ensure individual choice, that their rights are upheld and safeguarded and that service provision is transparent, accountable and empowering.
