Which of the following statements best describes you?

  • I’m a parent / guardian or other family member of a person with disability
  • I’m a carer of a person with disability
  • I am employed by government (Australian, state, territory or local government)

Question 1:

What matters most to measure and report on as we seek to achieve inclusive and accessible communities for people with disability?

I think the example indicators for this outcome are pretty good. I would like to see them all measured.

Question 2:

What is most important to measure and report on as we seek to achieve economic security for people with disability?

I think the example indicators for this outcome are good. I would like to see these things measured.

Also, I think I would like to see participation of PWD in unpaid/voluntary work measured.

I would like to see a measure for people with a disability on full award wages and those on disability-specific adjusted minimum wages.

Question 3:

What is most important to measure and report on as we seek to achieve health and wellbeing outcomes for people with disability?

I would like to see the example indicators for this outcome measured.

I don’t know if it would be possible to measure how many PWD have been denied medical treatment on the basis of their disability.

Question 4:

What is most important to measure and report on as we seek to achieve rights, protection, justice and legislation outcomes for people with disability?

The example indicators for this outcome are very broad and poor.

I would like to see measured such as

– PWD accessing advocacy vs wait times, “closed books” or advocacy is unavailable for my issues
– PWD can access legal advice when required
– police/emergency services listen when I make a report and understand
– reduction in numbers of prisoners with disability, improved access to disability support in prisons
– PWD can access emergency housing shelters and DV services
– disability discrimination complaints (ideally with a new, better, fit for purpose way of reporting and resolving these, even “micro-aggression” discrimination)

Question 5:

What is most important to measure and report on as we seek to achieve learning and skills outcomes for people with disability?

The example indicators for this outcome are poor and reflect available data that does not “touch the sides” of the difficulties in education experienced by PWD in education.
We need exclusion/expulsion and suspension data. We know exclusion and suspension disproportionately affect PWD. Measure it.
Measure how many PWD access reasonable adjustments in educational settings to help them succeed. Measure how many PWD are being refused adjustments that they consider reasonable.
Measure how many PWD feel included and welcomed in their educational setting.
Measure part-time attendance.
Measure setting. Track who is segregated when and why. Ask what influenced the decision to enter a segregated setting.
Rather than asking if they have “a teacher” in the school who understands their disability needs, ask if all their teachers do.
Set the bar higher. This is a vitally important outcome. Lives depend on this.

Question 6:

What is most important to measure and report on as we seek to achieve personal and community support outcomes for people with disability?

The example indicators for this outcome are ok.

Question 7:

How often would you like to see progress against the outcomes for people with disability in the National Disability Strategy and the National Disability Insurance Scheme reported?

At least annually for all outcomes.

Question 8:

Is there anything else that you think should be considered when we are monitoring and measuring the impact of activities on people with disability?

Nil input.
