We must work together to ensure that people living with a disability are included and have access to events, venues, open spaces, transport and information networks and services. The Government will need to support transition to more inclusive and accessible communities, places and spaces through incentives, tax breaks, grant funding and other supports
What is most important to measure and report on as we seek to achieve economic security for people with disability?
Benefits to those living with disabilities and their carers should be increased to ensure economic security.
Need to investigate the estimated replacement cost value of the total amount of volunteer and unpaid work that people with disabilities undertake and ensure that the contribution is captured in economic measure such as Gross Domestic Product.
Calculating the value of the unpaid and volunteer work people living with a disability undertake would be a step towards recognising their contributions.
What is most important to measure and report on as we seek to achieve health and wellbeing outcomes for people with disability?
Measurement of health and wellbeing must be made using validated health and well being measures and should also include spiritual welling.
Health professionals must receiving training on how best to communicate and interact with disabled people. Measures need to be put in place to benchmark and report on the outcomes of health practitioners and their interaction with people living with a disability
What is most important to measure and report on as we seek to achieve rights, protection, justice and legislation outcomes for people with disability?
We must ensure that their are protocols in place to protect the rights of those living with a disability.
Report on people with disabilities and their carers accessing advocacy and other services and the length of time they have to wait to access the services and supports that they require.
What is most important to measure and report on as we seek to achieve learning and skills outcomes for people with disability?
The distinct and different needs of every individual needs to be assessed in order to provide high quality education that is responsive to the needs of people with disabilities. Carers play a pivotal role in supporting people living with disabilities. The role of the carer must be recognised and carers included in the development and delivery of learning and skill development.
Measuring and reporting on the following would provide a data on how learning and skill development can be improved:
exclusion/expulsion and suspension
inclusion in educational settings (persons sense on inclusion)
ease of adjustment to an educational setting
flexibility of attendance
one on one teacher support
What is most important to measure and report on as we seek to achieve personal and community support outcomes for people with disability?
Financial capacity to be able to participate in a range of services and supports
Need to recognised co-morbidities and the complexity of needs of people living with disabilities.
How often would you like to see progress against the outcomes for people with disability in the National Disability Strategy and the National Disability Insurance Scheme reported?
bi-annual reporting against KPI and bench marks. The Framework must specify priorities, accountabilities and costs to ensure that adequate monitoring can take place and that the lives of people living with disabilities are improving
