Which of the following statements best describes you?

  • Parent of child with adhd which isn’t recognised as a disability

Question 1:

What matters most to measure and report on as we seek to achieve inclusive and accessible communities for people with disability?

Adhd/ADD doesn’t get any support in school’s, there is no aid to assist those children who need instructions directed at them in class. Understanding and learning social cues within school and outside. Teachers being knowledgeable to alter their teaching so the child can understand. My child lost a year of learning as the teacher just kept going and saying she passed. Knowing there’s a place for them to reach out to for help in public.

Question 2:

What is most important to measure and report on as we seek to achieve economic security for people with disability?

My child has ADD so won’t even be considered for any assistance. It be nice if she had some support outside of her parents. Employers having an understanding of adhd/ADD like autism is so well publicise would help communities to understand these conditions and prevent them feeling bad about themselves

Question 3:

What is most important to measure and report on as we seek to achieve health and wellbeing outcomes for people with disability?

You need professionals who can recognise those who appear to be ok and coping when actually they aren’t. Monitoring mental health states of individuals especially those who seem to be doing fine. An example is my child will just go along with what other’s say because she thinks that’s what they want to hear, yet inside she is suffering

Question 4:

What is most important to measure and report on as we seek to achieve rights, protection, justice and legislation outcomes for people with disability?

Nil input.

Question 5:

What is most important to measure and report on as we seek to achieve learning and skills outcomes for people with disability?

None of this is done for a child with only adhd/ADD if they don’t qualify for funding. We had one year where a teacher said she’s not letting ADD to be an excuse when actual fact we wanted her to change her teaching to help with the learning. This year we had different experience with different teachers and had great results. Ignorance and arrogance of teachers is too dominant in classrooms and having to fight for your child’s right to be treated fairly is hard on all

Question 6:

What is most important to measure and report on as we seek to achieve personal and community support outcomes for people with disability?

We have none of this especially when public perception of adhd/ADD needs to be altered to those cases that get no assistance from any professionals and parents have huge financial impact on income

Question 7:

How often would you like to see progress against the outcomes for people with disability in the National Disability Strategy and the National Disability Insurance Scheme reported?

6mths – 12mths. 6mth would catch those who are falling through the crack

Question 8:

Is there anything else that you think should be considered when we are monitoring and measuring the impact of activities on people with disability?

To include adhd and ADD included as a disability
