The eligibility requirements of DES mean that participants who may have an NDIS package but are not eligible for specialised employment support. If the Employment Supports in NDIS are looking to link in with a DES to assist participants in gaining and maintaining meaningful employment, then this is an issue. Additionally, those that are not eligible for a benefit due to injury suffered through a workplace accident, vehicle accident or some other accident where they receive compensation towards the ongoing support of their medical conditions, these people are precluded from accessing a DES program.
Those with intensive support requirements cannot access the services of a DES and therefore less likely to maintain their employment or even consider employment where no support is available.
