I have recently found out about the change to 24 month plan cycles. The person I first learned about the change from, has had their funding requests at their review denied, and denied again at appeal, which they are told means they now need to wait 24 months (until the end of the new cycle) for any further action. This means they must wait 24 months without the services they requested (and require). This is absolutely unacceptable. Looking at the NDIS website, apparently the change to longer plan cycles was in response to service user feedback…but I question exactly what feedback they were responding to, and what further consultation there was…as well as whether the impact of having funding declined and then being required to wait until the end of the longer cycle was considered.
