About the submitter:
I am a qualified Child Care Educator, owner of a child care centre, with various business experience.
Which priority group of the Try, Test and Learn Fund does your idea support?
What need or issue are you trying to address?
Young parents are struggling to support their family and gain a qualification at the same time.
In many instances, young parents find their daily life a struggle so the option of studying is not considered.
Current study options are not very supportive, especially in rural or remote areas.
The costs of education is out of reach for many young people.
Discussions I have had over the past few years with local groups, individuals and corporations such as Trainers and Assessors, local Aboriginal training and employment groups have constantly identified the above mentioned issues.
What is your idea?
To offer Child Care training in a facility that provides on-site accommodation and support as well as a training facility, to ensure that the student/young parent is alleviated from financial stress and lack of support which obtaining a qualification.
A child care centre would be developed on site, which not only enables the young parent to complete their practical assessments, but also provides a place for their children to attend whilst the parent is studying.
By providing the training and accommodation in the one place, the parents will not require transport, which will reduce costs for the parent.
Student counselling and support will be provided on site.
