Young parents
What need or issue are you trying to address?
Anglicare WA utilised a brief Human Centred Design process to inform this submission, which generated the following insights:
Young parents struggle with finding flexible child care to access employment.
Sole parenting also leaves many socially isolated. Many young fathers are not actively involved in nurturing their children.
What is your idea?
This program would build the capacity of young dads to take on a parenting role by utilising a combination of professional support and peer support. This would involve a range of activities including:
– Providing professional support to assist young dads to overcome barriers to parenting.
– Organised dad and bub events where dads can get together
– Provide mediation to allow parents to develop a plan for co-parenting.
With dad doing some work in providing care for children, mums would be able to access other opportunities.
