This is a simplified notice to help you understand how we handle your personal information if you provide a submission in relation to the Disability Strategy 2021-2031 consultation paper. A more detailed notice is available here
Why are we calling for your input?
Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021-2031 calls on all Australians to ensure people with disability can participate as equal members of society. Under the Strategy, all governments have committed to developing a guide to the Guiding Principles of the Strategy and a guide on how to involve people with disability in the evaluation.
As part of developing the guides, we are consulting with people with disability, the broader disability community and other stakeholders.
You can participate in the consultation by providing a submission. We are not asking you to provide your name or contact details or any other personal information in your submission. However, we understand that your submission might contain personal information. If you do provide personal information, we will handle it in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles contained in the Privacy Act.
If you do not provide your personal information (including sensitive information), we will still be able to consider your views as part of the consultation process and your identity will remain anonymous.
What is considered personal information?
In general, your personal information is any information that can identify you. This includes your name, phone number, email address, your opinions, any opinions about you and your views about your experiences. It also includes sensitive information, such as health information, including information about whether you have a disability and the nature of that disability.
Who are you giving your personal information to?
If you chose to provide your personal information in your submission, you are providing it to the Department of Social Services. We are responsible for national policies and programs to improve and support the social and economic wellbeing of all Australians. You are also providing your personal information to Services Australia, which is helping us with some of the information technology (IT) aspects of the consultation.
Will we share your personal information with anyone?
The information you provide in your submission may be published and be made publicly available on the DSS engage website if you tell us that’s okay. We will ask if you consent to sharing your information after you have read this notice. If you do consent to us publishing your submission and later change your mind, you can contact us to withdraw your consent.
If you choose to provide us with your name, we will only publish it along with your submission if you tell us that’s okay. We will ask if you consent after you have read this notice.
We will not publish your submission or parts of your submission if we consider for any reason that it should not be made public. If you have provided your personal information or anybody else’s personal information as part of your submission and we don’t have consent, we will remove it before we publish the submission.
We will not provide your personal information to anybody else unless required to by law. We will not disclose your personal information to anybody overseas.
