Chair of the NDRP EOI – Privacy Collection Notice

The Department of Social Services (department, we us) is seeking nominations for the National Disability Research Partnership Board Chair through an Expression of Interest.

The National Disability Research Partnership (NDRP) is an Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021-2031 (ADS) initiative and is being set up to be an independent not-for-profit Company governed by a Board of Directors.

As part of this Expression of Interest process, we will ask you for personal information (first and last name, postcode, phone number and email address). We will also ask for sensitive information (including gender and disability) and information about skills and experience.

We will collect, or have already collected, your information (including any personal information) for one or more of the above purposes. This notice is designed to ensure you are aware of the purpose and certain matters in relation to that collection, as required by the Privacy Act.

Your personal information is protected by law, including under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What is ‘personal information’ and ‘sensitive information’?

Personal information is information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable.

Sensitive information is a subset of personal information. It includes information or an opinion about your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs or affiliations, philosophical beliefs, membership of associations or unions, sexual orientation or practices, criminal record, or health, genetic or biometric information.

What we collect

Through your participation of expression of interest, we will collect a range of your personal information (some of which could be sensitive information) including:

  • Name, Gender and other identity details.
  • Bank Account, Super, TFN and other financial details.
  • lived experience of disability (if applicable)
  • skills, characteristics, and experience
  • education and career history (if applicable)

Sensitive information will be collected if you choose to provide it in your expression of interest form.

We may collect personal information from you as well as from other people. For example, we may collect personal information from you about:

  • your personal views in relation to your experience, and others’ experience, with your employment; and
  • licensing and registration required for the position.

How we collect your information

We will collect the personal information that you give to us in your expression of interest. For the purpose of evaluating your Expression of Interest, we may also collect information about you that is in the public domain (including on the Internet) or from your referees, professional associations you have advised us you belong to, or bodies responsible for issuing licences, qualifications or registrations you tell us that you have.

Why we collect your personal information

Personal information is being collected for the purpose of assessing your suitability for the position of NDRP Chair of the Board.

Given the nature of the nomination process, we are unable to provide the option of remaining anonymous or using a pseudonym. Therefore, if you do not consent to providing your name and other personal informationncluding some sensitive information, into the expression of interest form, you will not be able to express interest in this position.

Who we disclose your personal information to

We may disclose your personal information to the following people, organisations or third parties as part of considering you for the position of Chair and evaluating your Expression of Interest:

  • the Minister for Social Services
  • Employees from the office of the Minister for Social Services
  • ADS Advisory Council
  • Australian Business Registry Services
  • National Disability Research Partnership Ltd
  • Services Australia for the purposes of assisting the Department to administer DSS Engage and providing the Department with other information technology services
  • Persons or organisations you have identified as referees
  • Professional organisations you have indicated you are a member of
  • Licensing, registration or similar bodies for qualifications, licences or registrations you have advised us that you have

We may also disclose your personal information to other parties where the disclosure is permitted or authorised by law.

All entities contracted by us are subject to strict confidentiality, privacy and security obligations.

The information you provide to us will be sent to a third party such as the ADS Advisory Council to determine your eligibility for the position.

Storage of your personal information

Storage of personal information (and the disposal of information when no longer required) is managed in accordance with the Australian Government records management regime, including the Archives Act 1983, agency-specific records authorities and general records authorities. This ensures your personal information is held securely by the Department.

All personal information collected by the Department is stored on Services Australia’s cloud storage, on servers located in Australia. Services Australia and the Department retains effective control over any personal information held on our cloud, and the information is handled in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Any information disclosed to third parties will be handled in accordance with the Privacy Act and stored in accordance with agreed security protocols.
