Questions and answers

Role and structure of the Evidence Advisory Committee

What is the role of the NDIS Evidence Advisory Committee?

The Evidence Advisory Committee (EAC) will provide independent advice to government on the suitability and effectiveness of disability supports. This will ensure that supports provided through the NDIS are safe, contribute to better outcomes and provide value for money. This will include looking at therapies, assistive technology and equipment.

Why is the government investing in this measure?

The NDIS Review found that the NDIS lacks an independent and transparent oversight mechanism to determine the suitability and effectiveness of supports funded. The government is establishing the Evidence Advisory Committee in response to Recommendation Action 23.2.

How will the EAC work?

The EAC will be supported by three technical subcommittees that focus on:

  • capacity building therapies
  • assistive technology and capital
  • economic analysis.

Together they will integrate, review and assess evidence about supports. The EAC will make recommendations to government about the suitability and cost effectiveness of supports for NDIS funding. It will also advise on research gaps and different impacts on population sub-groups.

Who is on the EAC?

Committee members will include (disability) academics, professionals and clinical experts, health economists and consumer representatives. We want to appoint people with lived experience of disability, including First Nations people, and culturally and linguistically diverse people. The appointment of members will align with government policies on gender inclusion.

When will the EAC meet?

The EAC will start by July 2025 and meet several times each year to review evidence and advise on identified supports. More details of the meeting schedule will be available later.
