The Australian Government recognises the importance of the rights of people with disability and a skilled and capable workforce to deliver quality and safe supports and services to National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants to meet their needs.

The Government announced a review of the design, operations and sustainability of the NDIS in October 2022. The NDIS Review examined ways to build a more responsive, supportive and sustainable market and workforce. The final report of the NDIS Review was released in November 2023, which included recommendations for the Government to review the regulatory model for all providers and workers delivering NDIS services.

In February 2024, the NDIS Provider and Worker Registration Taskforce (the Taskforce) was established to provide advice on the design and implementation of the new graduated risk-proportionate regulatory model proposed in the NDIS Review Final Report (the Report), together with the disability community.

Specifically, the Taskforce is providing advice on key design elements related to Recommendation 17 of the Report. Recommendation 17 is to develop and deliver a risk-proportionate model for the visibility and regulation of all providers and workers, and strengthen the regulatory response to long-standing and emerging quality and safeguards issues. The NDIS Review have provided a summary on this recommendation: A new risk-proportionate model for regulation of providers and workers

The Terms of Reference, along with additional information on the Taskforce can be found on the DSS website.
