National Disability Data Asset Council – Expert and community representative nominations

Subject to disability ministers’ agreement, Australian, state and territory governments will work with the disability community to establish the National Disability Data Asset.

Once established the disability data asset will:

  • connect de-identified information from different government agencies about people with disability to better understand their experiences and help inform how we can improve outcomes
  • be co-governed in partnership between the disability community and governments through a representative National Disability Data Asset Council (the Council).

The disability data asset will be co-governed in partnership by the disability community and governments through a representative National Disability Data Asset Council (the Council).

As a part of the government’s approach to lay the groundwork for this co-governance, the Department of Social Services (DSS) is seeking nominations of community representatives for the National Disability Data Asset Council (the Council). The Council will be a 12 person advisory body comprised of 6 members from government, 3 non-government experts in disability and/or data and 3 members from the disability community.

What is the National Disability Data Asset Council?

The Council will be an advisory body to the Disability Reform Ministerial Council (and the forum to allow community and government to co-govern the disability data asset. The Council Terms of Reference can be found on the right of this page.

The Council will comprise of 12 members with half representing government, and half representing members of the disability community. The Council will include representatives with lived experience of disability. The 6 disability community representatives will include:

  • Three non-government experts in the disability and/or data
  • Three representatives from the disability community
