NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework – Reducing and eliminating restrictive practices in NDIS funded supports discussion
A restrictive practice is any intervention which restricts the rights or freedom of movement of a person with disability who displays challenging behaviours, where the primary purpose of that intervention is to protect that person or others from harm.

This is one area under which all sorts of wrong practices are happening . Since majority of the people with intellectual disability are unable to speak for themselves, these practices are being used in a wrong way to justify service providers poor services.
I also would like to see NDIS to reform terminology used to handle some documents such as Behavoiur management … It really usually is disable people left with managing service providers or support workers behaviours rather than other way around.
You’d probably find a lot less restrictive practices having to be used if the NDIS would look more sensibly on addressing health issues and really meeting people’s needs.
I think one could include Communication skills” for support workers and service providers” alongside Health and safety training.
If only health and safety training is given, an imbalance is created: Safety considerations and responsibilities can be easily mistakenly used to control people, instead of listening to their needs.
Especially challenging, of course, where communication is an issue.
